Two of the main benefits of LOWA boots are that they are naturally hard-wearing and durable. When you buy a new pair you can be certain that you are investing in quality footwear, but this shouldn’t stop you from giving your LOWA boots the aftercare and attention they need. In fact, full-grain leather needs pretty regular care to ensure that it can repel dirt, fend off water and retain its intended lifespan.
To keep your footwear in tip-top condition, we have created this handy guide on how to care for LOWA boots. Follow the steps below and you can be sure that your new boots perform as they should for the years to come.
1. Clean them regularly
Wear and tear is natural when it comes to anything you wear or use all day long. Your LOWA boots are no different, so you should always expect to see some creases, marks, scratches or scuffs over time. However, frequent cleaning helps you limit the extent to which lasting damage can take over your boots.
You should always clean your boots when they are dry. Start by loosening dirt or mud with a cleaning brush and wipe the boots with a damp and soapy cloth. Rinse any soap off and dry the boots carefully and naturally. Do this at regular intervals and definitely after particularly wet, muddy or messy excursions. When you’re in the field, you’ll naturally clean your boots less. We suggest a quick polish in the morning as part of your general morning admin routine.
2. Store in a dry place
If you’re wondering how to care for LOWA boots, know that storage is pivotal for maintaining their condition. Don’t be tempted to put your boots away as soon as you are inside. Even if you don’t have time to clean them straight away, you need to let them dry out completely to prevent the leather from staying damp and getting damaged. Once your boots are aired out after use, store them somewhere completely dry and keep them away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid the leather getting warped.
3. Use a waterproofing spray
To get the most wear out of your new LOWA boots and enhance the natural properties of the leather, it’s always wise to use LOWA boot care products and treatments on the exterior. When your boots are clean but still damp, use a waterproofing spray to add a hydrophobic layer that fends off moisture and enhances the pre-existing boot technology. To apply, simply spray from 20-25 cm away and keep the boots ventilated for 24 hours.
4. Apply LOWA active creme
Once your LOWA boots have been suitably waterproofed, the final step of our care guide is to apply LOWA active creme to keep your boots waterproof and allow the leather membrane to breathe. We recommend that you apply this boot care product every few months if you can as this keeps the leather supple and reduces the frequency at which you might otherwise need to clean them: a win-win. If your boots are black, use the LOWA Active Creme Black Edition as this is designed specially for use on black leather.
Regular care and cleaning will preserve the life of your boots and maximise your investment in new footwear, so make sure to follow these tips and set aside the time to give your boots the love they deserve. We hope you’ll agree that this boot care guide should be easy to follow, but if you have any questions about how to look after your LOWA boots then don’t hesitate to get in touch with our expert team!
