In the military, your equipment is carried in a backpack also referred to as a Bergan and webbing, these combined form a load carriage system (LCS). Load carriage is an inevitable part of military life during basic training, exercise and operations.
The backpack can trace its name back to the Norwegian manufacturer Ole F Bergan. In 1913, Bergan's rucksacks were introduced into the Norwegian Armed Forces. In 1922 they equipped the British Mount Everest Expedition during the first serious climb of the mountain. Bergans have evolved into high quality pieces of military equipment and Dragon Supplies are a manufacturer in the UK of Specialist Bergans for the British Army.
