Military personnel familiar with this compass may well have known it as the Plastimo Iris 50 Mils Compass. The Firefly self-illuminating prismatic compass utilises the Plastimo IRIS 50 prismatic magnetic compass sealed cell. It is fitted with a reliable Trigalight® light source, this self-illuminating compass is a highly effective tool for night, day & dusk navigation. These 4 micro - trigalights® are fixed securely within the unit to illuminate the graduations on both horizontal and prismatic planes providing sufficient illumination for immediate reading clarity in all light conditions. This is an excellent compass issued to forces worldwide and tried and trusted for years. The compass is suitable for primary or back-up navigation duty of a lightweight construction, with tough protective case, soft bottom cell prevents leaks and bubbles in the liquid.
Self-Illuminating, Tritium Light Source
The Compass incorporates 4 Gaseous Tritium Light Sources (GTLS) which provide a completely independent means of light generation for back lighting of the navigation dial and prismatic legend. No batteries or charging by ambient light is required. There are no associated moving parts and because the unit is continuously energised, no switch. The Compass lights will remain energised for 10 maintenance-free years, even during extended periods of complete darkness.
Safe and Reliable Operation
GTLS are non-emissive, sealed sources, installed within tough protective enclosures. Suitable for use in temperatures ranging from -40° to 80°C, they will continue to operate even when under water. Safe for operation in Zone 0 hazardous atmospheres.

Shipping and Delivery
All delivery options can be viewed whilst shopping on the website, shipping costs include handling charges. We use Royal Mail and Parcelforce for UK deliveries. Delivery times are estimated and may vary. While we strive to meet our delivery timelines, unforeseen circumstances such as weather conditions, customs clearance, or other logistical issues may cause delays. We appreciate your understanding in such situations.
We will make every effort to deliver within the time stated on our website, but we will not be held liable for any loss caused to you by late delivery, incorrect instructions, including mistakes on your order form. Goods not delivered within the delivery time stated can, at your discretion, be cancelled and refunded. Please note this may take up to 5 – 7 days to reflect in your account.
Shipping Costs
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout and are the responsibility of the customer. Delivery will, unless we agree otherwise, be to the address stated in your order.
Our postage and packing charges cover delivery to destinations within the UK and most of the world. For deliveries to destinations not listed, please contact us for a quotation.
Delivery Address
Please ensure that the shipping address provided is accurate and complete. We are not responsible for orders shipped to incorrect addresses provided by the customer.
Failed Delivery Attempts
If a delivery attempt is unsuccessful, the carrier will leave a notification card with instructions for re-delivery or pickup at a local facility.
Delivery Confirmation
A signature may be required upon delivery for certain high-value orders or at the discretion of the shipping carrier.
Deliveries from Task Force Military/Specialist Kit are made by either Royal Mail or Parcelforce. Our Courier services may require a signature on delivery. Under our standard service we aim to deliver goods to destinations in the UK. Please check product pages for any special delivery information relating to specific products.
Please note we will make every effort to make amends for any discrepancy, however certain circumstances are sometimes outside the control of Task Force Military/Specialist Kit.
Royal Mail and Parcelforce only deliver during normal working hours Monday to Friday and possibly Saturday 8am - 12 midday. This may incur an additional surcharge. They cannot give a set time for delivery but Parcelforce will text/email you an approximate 1hr delivery time. Please contact us for obscure deliveries or for deliveries on Saturdays.
Overseas Orders
When ordering goods from our website for delivery overseas you may be subject to additional import duties and taxes, which are levied once the order reaches the specified destination. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. We have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Should you decline to make these payments the goods will be returned to us and you will refunded, less any return postage and any other charges born by Task Force Military/Specialist Kit. It is the responsibility of our customers to pay the relevant duties incurred at the port of entry to their country, Task Force Military/Specialist Kit will not accept responsibility for discrepancies incurred by customers who are not familiar with the rulings of their parent country.
For orders being shipped to Norway we will require the eleven-digit number from your ID card in order to complete the UK/Norwegian customs forms. Please add this in the ‘comment’ section at the checkout. Failure to supply this number may result in your order being delayed or cancelled.
